  1. Do you have an illustrated catalogue of the Fashioning Felt exhibit? If so, how can I order one (I live in Canada). Thanks! Mary

  2. Are the lectures going to be on CD? If so, how can I order a copy? (I’m in the midwest) This is so exciting! Thanks! Tina

  6. There are many talented “felters” throughout the Northeast. For example, check out www.starrspunfelt.com for both wearable and decorative felt designs.

  7. FASHION IN FELT….what talent….loved the PALACE YURT…….majestic

  8. Hi, this is amazing! Isn’t it wonderfully weird that one thinks oneself to be alone and then discovering synergy across oceans? We produce hand-made and hand-dyed felt items for discerning individuals and companies in a small village in South Africa. We’d love to collaborate with the Museum, and the designers and artisans involved in this exhibition.

  9. The Palace Yurt was my favorite piece. I love the soft light it created and all of the details (little curlicues made by locks of wool and the mixture of fabrics). Very fun exhibit

  11. Hi,

Caught the show today on Martha Stewart. Amazing and beautiful job of the felting of the yurt by Janice Arnold! Absolutely Superb!!!

I am a silk painter and shibori artist in San Diego, California, recently branching out into felted textiles for wearables and art pieces. Would love to know more about Janice, and would appreciate any contact info on her. Or, you may pass my info and e-mail on to her.

Definitely want to buy a copy of the show catalogue. Bravo!

  13. Hi,
I am a masters student in architecture university of Greenwich London and i am writing on the relationship between fashion and architecture in the global world. How can i know more about the exhibition and also the venue since it is not indicated. I will really want to know more about sustainibility (uses and re use of material) and other global issues that affect fashion and architecture.

    IDEOZU SAMUEL | May 2, 05:12 PM

  14. Ideozu,
Sustainability and the relationship of textiles to architecture are two of the most interesting sub-themes of the exhibition. I moderated a panel discussion with the artist/designers Claudy Jongstra and Kathryn Walter, available through our website: http://video.cooperhewitt.org/convergence-of-craft-and-industry-claudy-jongstra-and-kathryn-walter
Each designer works with architects to create interior finishes which are beautiful, sustainable, and also provide acoustic benefits. Both are very concerned with environmental responsibility, but they approach it from opposite ends of the production chain. Claudy Jongstra raises her own sheep, an endangered species called Drenthe Heath, and grows her own dye plants. Kathryn Walter recycles off-cuts and waste materials from industrial feltmaking. We sat down to discuss their recent architectural work, and the future of felt as a green building material.

  15. Hi Susan,
Great exhibit. I’ve been out of the design scene for a while, and this show made me miss it a bit.
Back in 2002 I designed a felt bench at RISD: http://www.aedo-to.com/sito_storico/eng/agora/world%20design/scuole/13/art01.html

  22. I was very disappointed to discover that the palace yurt was not in the Fashioning Felt catalog. Is there a publication planned that will include what was the centerpiece of the exhibition?
